Shakira shared, ahead of the grand final of the 2026 World Cup, a preview of a completely Spanish version of "Dai Dai," the official anthem of the tournament that she performs alongside Nigerian artist Burna Boy, in what many interpret as a nod to the two Spanish-speaking teams competing for the title this afternoon in New York.
The excerpt, posted on the social media of the Colombian singer, includes lines such as "in the 11 against 11, everyone plays their part, here no one is judged when they give it their all" and "look, it's better to live life, because we're on the rise," lyrics filled with the spirit of perseverance that characterizes the original song.
Spain and Argentina are facing off this afternoon at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, in the first World Cup final between two Spanish-speaking teams, making Shakira's gesture particularly symbolic for millions of fans.
However, those who expected to hear this adaptation during the halftime show will have to settle for the original version, as reported by the newspaper AS.
The live performance was conceived with the theme as it was released in English, with Burna Boy joining the Barranquilla artist on stage.
The Spanish version of "Dai Dai" is not entirely new: it was first released on June 23, 2026, before the Colombia vs. RD Congo match, as a nod to the Latin American audience. However, the teaser shared days before the final reignited massive interest in the adaptation.
"Dai Dai" has become one of the major musical phenomena of the summer, with nearly 200 million streams on Spotify and more than 440 million views on YouTube.
On June 30, it reached number one on the Global Songs chart of the platform, during its sixth week on the charts. In a Billboard survey, it was voted the best official World Cup song since 1990, even surpassing "Waka Waka."
The halftime show of this final is the first in the history of the tournament with a format similar to that of the Super Bowl, a milestone for world football.
Alongside Shakira and Burna Boy, Madonna, BTS, Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Laura Pausini, Robbie Williams, and conductor Gustavo Dudamel will also perform, in addition to the Ghetto Kids, the child dance group from Kampala (Uganda) that already shared the stage with the Colombian artist at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
This is the fourth official participation of Shakira in a World Cup, following her appearances in Germany 2006, South Africa 2010 with "Waka Waka," and Brazil 2014 with "La La La," making her the artist with the most official connections in the history of the tournament.
All the royalties from "Dai Dai" are allocated to the FIFA-Global Citizen Education Fund, with a goal of raising 100 million dollars, which adds a philanthropic dimension to the musical phenomenon that has marked this World Cup.
