On the way to the Boston stadium to see France face Morocco in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup, Shakira recorded a video from the car with a confession that no one expected: Kylian Mbappé was the first footballer to agree to participate in the music video for Dai Dai, the official anthem of the tournament.

“Fun fact, did you know that the first player who agreed to participate in my video Dai Dai was Mbappé? Kylian, I will always be grateful. Thank you very much,” said the Colombian in the clip that she shared on her social media before the match.

The gesture of the French captain carried special significance for the Barranquillera: by being the first to say yes, he opened the door for other stars of world football to join the project.

The music video for Dai Dai —released on May 25 alongside Nigerian artist Burna Boy— features stars like Lionel Messi, Harry Kane, Vinícius Júnior, Luis Díaz, Jamal Musiala, and Erling Haaland.

Mbappé appears in the first seconds of the video saying the phrase "Shakira, we are ready," a moment that the singer clearly hasn't forgotten.

On the night of the match, Shakira watched the game from the stands of the Foxborough stadium in Massachusetts, accompanied by her children Milan and Sasha.

France defeated Morocco 2-0, with goals from Mbappé in the 60th minute and Ousmane Dembélé in the 66th, becoming the first team to qualify for the tournament's semifinals.

The celebration of Shakira didn't end with the video before the match. After the final whistle, the artist shared a selfie on her Instagram stories alongside Wilfried Mbappé, Kylian's father, with the caption "Avec monsieur Mbappé."

Before the meeting, he also addressed his French fans in perfect French: "On this very special day, I would like to thank France for all the love you have given to my music this year."

Shakira's relationship with this World Cup goes far beyond a song. The Colombian artist led the opening ceremony of the tournament on June 11 at the Estadio Ciudad de México, and will again take the spotlight in the final on July 19, where she will perform in the halftime show alongside Madonna, BTS, Burna Boy, Coldplay, Gustavo Dudamel, and Justin Bieber.

France, for its part, awaits its semifinal opponent: it will face the winner of the match between Spain and Belgium, scheduled for Tuesday, July 14 at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
