The Metropolitan Tower Life Insurance bank is demanding payment from Cuban-American actor William Levy for a mortgage debt that has now exceeded 2.5 million dollars, according to court documents released this week by the program El Gordo y La Flaca via Telemicro.
The origin of the conflict dates back to December 2021, when Levy requested a loan of approximately $2.2 million to finance the construction of his mansion in Southwest Ranches, Florida, a property he shared with his ex-partner, actress Elizabeth Gutiérrez.
According to court documents, the plaintiff ceased making payments in March 2025, which prompted the financial institution to file a foreclosure lawsuit in the Broward County court. The bank attempted to contact Levy for almost a year without receiving a response before initiating the legal process.
Although a partial payment was later recorded, the institution maintained that it was not sufficient to settle the debt. With the accrued interest, the original amount of 2.2 million grew to exceed 2.5 million dollars.
"As time goes by without paying the monthly installments, the interest rates increase, and if the initial loan was about two million two hundred thousand dollars, it has now risen to two million five hundred thousand," warned the Telemicro report.
The lawyers for Levy and Gutiérrez responded by arguing inconsistencies in the accounts presented by the bank and requesting more time to present evidence to the court.
The mansion in dispute, located on Mustang Trail, Southwest Ranches, boasts over 8,000 square meters, six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a gym, a movie theater, a swimming pool, and a tennis court. The land was purchased in 2017 for about $700,000, and the couple built the residence from the ground up. The property was listed on the market in July 2025 for nearly nine million dollars, a price that dropped to approximately $5,995,000 at the time of the lawsuit.
The mortgage scandal became public in early March 2026, when the Spanish program "El Tiempo Justo" on Telecinco revealed the lawsuit exclusively. Levy downplayed the issue during the Malaga Film Festival, stating: "It’s a property from which I am separating, and we are waiting for the sale, and everything is going to be fine."
In May 2026, the actor managed to halt the judicial auction by presenting a signed purchase agreement to the court. Journalist Mandy Fridmann, who covered the hearing on April 28, reported that "the debt will be covered by the new buyer" and that Levy was "in the process of paperwork."
The court scheduled a hearing for June 10, 2026, to verify the closure of the operation; however, there has yet to be any definitive public confirmation that the debt has been formally settled or that the sale has been finalized.
The mortgage conflict adds to a particularly turbulent period for Levy: his separation from Gutiérrez at the beginning of 2024 after more than twenty years of relationship, his arrest in April 2025 at a restaurant in Weston —charges that were dropped in October of that year— and his new relationship, confirmed in March 2026, with Jenifer Camacho, a 22-year-old Cuban nurse.
