Jerry Saint Vil, 26 years old, was arrested this Saturday in Miramar, Florida, accused of being responsible for the death of a man who was attacked with a knife three days earlier at a gas station in Broward County, according to the Miramar Police Department.
According to reports from Telemundo 51, the crime occurred Wednesday night at the Mobil gas station located on the 16000 block of Miramar Parkway, around 9:45 p.m.
The victim was identified as Teófilo de Jesús Vargas Paulino, 51 years old, who worked at the car wash next to the gas station.
After being stabbed, Vargas was airlifted to a trauma center, where he died due to the severity of his injuries.
According to the authorities, the incident originated from a dispute between the two men that escalated into an attack. Investigators have not disclosed the motive for the fight, and the police confirmed that no gas station employees were involved.
After the attack, Saint Vil fled the scene, triggering an intense police search that lasted two days.
On Wednesday night, agents from the Miramar Police deployed K-9 units and received support from Broward Sheriff's deputies and a helicopter to track down the suspect.
On Friday, authorities released the photo of Saint Vil and declared him a wanted man on charges of first-degree murder.
This Saturday morning, the search came to an end. "After an extensive search in the area of block 2100 of Acapulco Drive, Saint Vil was located and taken into custody without incident," stated Janice McIntosh, spokesperson for the Miramar Police, in a statement reported by the Miami Herald.
Saint Vil has been moved to the main jail of the Broward Sheriff's Office, where he will face first-degree murder charges with premeditation.
Records from the Broward Sheriff's Office show that Saint Vil had been arrested in May 2026 on charges of burglary and unlawful entry, indicating a criminal history prior to the offense.
Vargas's colleagues described him as someone uninvolved in conflicts. They had seen him finish his workday normally that night, unaware of the violent outcome that was about to unfold.
«He was a quiet, hardworking person. He wasn't someone who caused trouble. I don't know why this could have happened. Honestly, we feel sad,» declared Amílcar Hernández, a colleague of the victim, in remarks reported by Telemundo 51.
