Yory Gómez broke her silence in a video for the first time since the death of Mauro Menéndez to express her gratitude for the support received and to reveal how she and the musician Osamu Menéndez are navigating one of the most devastating moments of their lives.
In a recording posted on her Facebook profile that has garnered over 379,000 views, Yory acknowledged that it took her several days to gather the strength to record it. "I've been trying to make this video for days; it's really hard for me, but today I've found a little bit of strength because I feel I need to do it," she said at the beginning of the message.
The Cuban actress and singer described the pain she shares with Osamu with a phrase that encapsulates the magnitude of the loss: "There are no words to describe such great, such heart-wrenching pain."
Mauro, known artistically as DJ Maahez, passed away on the night of July 16 in Barbados, where he had traveled to attend a baseball game despite suffering from pneumonia. He was 30 years old and was the eldest son of Osamu and actress Aylín Mujica.
Yory asked friends and acquaintances to give them time, especially Osamu. "Osamu is not ready. It's very difficult, it's very difficult," he stated, using the nickname he calls his partner.
The only driving force that keeps them going, as she explained herself, is her son Oliver, who is around ten years old and is Mauro's older half-brother. "Our son has been our best medicine; he is our greatest support, our biggest motivating force to move forward," she stated.
In the video, Yory also announced her gradual return to her routine and thanked the businesses she advertises for supporting her during the break she decided to take. "We have to come back, we have to return for our son who needs us very, very much, for Osamu, for myself, for everyone," she concluded.
It was the first message from Yory on July 17 that revealed the depth of the bond she shared with Mauro. In that heartfelt post, she painfully asked how to explain to Oliver that his older brother would not return, and she confessed: "Mau, you know you were like another son to me."
The loss of Mauro also represents the second devastating blow for Osamu in less than four months. In March 2026, the musician said goodbye to Diana Díaz Olivera, mother of his daughter Adri, who passed away after a severe illness.
According to the heartbreaking account later provided by Aylín Mujica, Mauro began convulsing in Barbados, the ambulance took a long time to arrive, and he was resuscitated multiple times. Clots in a lung and in the heart are mentioned, although the official cause of death has not been confirmed by the family.
