Church in Las Tunas prepares giant breakfast for 500 people in need

The Viento Recio Ministry, an evangelical congregation from the Buena Vista neighborhood in Las Tunas, announced the organization of a massive breakfast for between 400 and 500 people in need, in what would be a significant assistance event benefiting many individuals.

The announcement was made by its leader, apostle Mayim Jorge, through a post on Facebook in which he also detailed the weekly work that the church is already doing: free breakfast on Mondays and Tuesdays, and lunch on Wednesdays, with an attendance of approximately 500 diners per week.

"We are announcing that we will soon be hosting a giant breakfast for 400 to 500 people in need. We will send out the necessary invitations," wrote Mayim Jorge, who described the beneficiaries as a "starving and ill population" that receives "their best breakfast and lunch of the week" at the church.

The religious leader clarified the origin of the resources to those who might question him: "It comes neither from drugs, nor from any exile organization, nor from the American embassy. It comes from the church. Many are contributing to this because they know we use it to help others and to glorify the Lord."

The congregation operates from 34 Eduardo Martínez Street, between Camilo Cienfuegos and Juan Espinosa, in the Buena Vista neighborhood, the religious leader noted in the comments.

"To my God be all the glory, for in times of extreme scarcity, He blesses us to help that starving and ailing population," concluded Mayim Jorge in his post.

Their volunteers begin preparing food from four in the morning, and at the beginning of the month they served lunch to 190 vulnerable individuals, in addition to preparing extra portions for those living on the street.

The apostle pointed out that among the attendees are not only elderly individuals but also children and young people, which reflects the worsening hunger in the province and throughout the island.

The initiative has not been without obstacles from the regime.

In June, for example, Cuban authorities prohibited the Viento Recio Ministry from continuing a breakfast program for pregnant women at a maternity home in Las Tunas, requiring authorization from the Communist Party for each food delivery.
