Frank Martínez is a Cuban farmer who documents his rural life in the United States. He experienced a night of chaos and embarrassment when the town sheriff showed up at his home to inform him that a pig was wandering the streets of the neighborhood.
The incident, captured in two videos posted on the Instagram account @little_emus_farm, quickly became a viral episode filled with humor and lessons about the responsibility of having farm animals.
The content creator was already getting ready to sleep when he heard a knock at his door. It was the sheriff, who informed him that several drivers had reported a pig wandering on the street.
"The situation reached such a level that even the sheriff of the county where I live had to come and tell me that she was wandering the streets causing trouble. What a shame I went through!" wrote the Cuban in the description of the first video.
The protagonist of the commotion is Arisca, a pig who, according to her owner, was in heat and had escaped from the pen in search of a mate. This behavior is well-known among pigs: females in this condition can become restless and prone to escape, not caring much about the consequences.
The sheriff's concern was significant. In rural areas of the United States, a loose animal on the road poses a real danger to drivers, and the owner is legally responsible for any accidents it may cause.
"It doesn't matter that it's roaming free on my property, but that an accident could happen on the road," the farmer acknowledged in the video.
That night, the Cuban went out in the dark with the sheriff and several neighbors to try to catch Arisca. The operation was a total failure: "Everyone with flashlights and ropes, but the pig said not me... and took off into the woods," he recounted with laughter.
The sow wandered into the woods, and there was no way to catch her. The next day, Arisca returned to the property alone, as if nothing had happened.
In a second video, the farmer revealed the outcome. After a capture maneuver, he managed to confine it alongside the swans on the farm with less difficulty than expected. “If I hadn’t locked it up today, the FBI, the police, the sheriff, and everyone else would have shown up here,” the Cuban joked.
The case serves as a reminder that loose animals on the road pose a serious risk. Between 2018 and 2023, such hazards on public roads were a factor in over 319,000 crashes and 433 fatalities nationwide, according to the American Automobile Association.
The farmer concluded the episode with his usual philosophy: “In the end, I have no choice but to laugh, because I truly feel that what happens to me… happens to no one else! In this house, I don't have a single animal that is completely normal and, to be honest, I think that’s why I love them so much.”
