The body of Adonis Acosta Fernández, a young man from the community of Guanina Núñez, in the municipality of Mayarí, Holguín province, was found buried by the banks of a river in the neighboring municipality of Sagua de Tánamo, days after his family reported him missing on social media.

According to information shared by communicators on Facebook, Adonis had been missing for three days when his loved ones began posting his photograph and contact numbers in groups like "Revolico Mayarí", desperately seeking information about his whereabouts.

The outcome was tragic. Adry Díaz was one of the first to report the news of the discovery: "The same story of violence repeats itself, a murder for money leaving two innocent orphans. The boy was found in Sagua de Tánamo, buried by the riverbank. I won't share many details out of respect for the family, but he was killed with great cruelty."

The motive for the crime is believed to be robbery, according to reports circulating on social media.

Adonis leaves behind two minor children.

Regarding those responsible, Díaz noted that "the suspects are detained," although this fact has not been independently confirmed.

The independent media NiO Reporting a Crime confirmed the discovery and warned that "the authorities have not provided official information about the circumstances of the event, the motive for the crime, or the identity of the alleged perpetrators."

Family members, friends, and neighbors are demanding that the case be investigated thoroughly to fully clarify what happened and that those involved are held accountable before the law.

The case is not isolated. Mayarí has a history of violent incidents that have raised increasing alarm among its residents. In December 2023, another young person from Mayarí was found dead with signs of violence under similar circumstances: Eugenio García Domínguez, 25 years old, had been reported missing before being discovered lifeless in Arroyo Hondo.

In January 2024, the municipality experienced a wave of violence that left at least three young people stabbed in a single weekend. In June 2025, there was a reported attempted crime against a farmer who was targeted for over 300,000 Cuban pesos. And in June 2026, Holguín was once again shaken by the discovery of a body in a river.

The pattern that emerges in these cases includes young victims, an economic motive, and a complete absence of official statements from the Cuban authorities, which forces citizens to turn to social media as the only channel to report and demand justice.

Adry Díaz summed up the community's sentiment with a phrase that reflects the accumulated despair: "The reality in Mayarí surpasses any fiction."
