The musician Reinaldo Barroso, known to family and friends as "Reinaldito," died in the city of Sancti Spíritus after receiving two stab wounds to the chest, in a case that has shocked the community and is under investigation by the authorities.
According to information shared on social media, the assault took place in a residence on Independencia Street, near the La Vizcaína store, where Barroso was gathered with three other individuals. A discussion reportedly escalated into a knife attack.
One of the aspects that has caused the most outrage is what happened after the assault. According to numerous testimonies shared on social media, those present did not request medical assistance immediately. Instead, they reportedly bathed the victim and changed her clothes, cleaned the scene, and later transported her in a pedicab to her home, where she passed away.
A testimony shared on Facebook claims that when Barroso was handed over to his relatives, they told his mother that he was suffering from hypoglycemia, without explaining that he had been injured.
"You have to have a really black heart to, after almost dying, take it to the mother and tell her that he had hypoglycemia," wrote a user who claimed to know the victim's family.
A post by crime reporter Niover Licea, known for his profile Nio reporting a crime, reveals the name of the alleged attacker, identified as Erick Yumar Leiva Toyos and known as "Yumy," although authorities have not officially confirmed this information nor disclosed the identity of the responsible party.
"They say they were drinking and it was due to a rough and heavy game between them. It seems he suffered an internal hemorrhage. Nothing, vices end up destroying people," commented another internet user.
So far, there is no official report regarding the circumstances of the crime. However, the Facebook profile My Forged Loyalty, linked to the Ministry of the Interior, indicated that several individuals remain detained as investigations progress.
The murder of Reinaldo Barroso has sparked a wave of messages of sorrow and calls for justice on social media. "Tell me: one is deceased and the other behind bars. What a disaster," summarized a user, reflecting the sense of shock that has left the people of Sancti Spíritus.
Crime once again highlights the increase in violence in Cuba. The Cuban Observatory for Citizen Audit recorded 2,833 verified crimes in 2025, a 115% increase compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, Cubalex documented 28 homicides during the past month of June, reflecting the persistence of this phenomenon.
Sancti Spíritus has also been the scene of other violent incidents in recent months. In June, two femicides shocked the province, and in May, a 78-year-old guard was murdered during a robbery in Yaguajay, for which four individuals were arrested.
A psychologist recently warned about the growing normalization of violence as a means of interaction in Cuban society, while the country dropped positions in the Global Peace Index of 2026.
