A young Cuban from the diaspora had an emotional reunion with her family when she returned to Cuba unexpectedly. She shared the moment on her account @rossmely.valdes, and within a few hours, it garnered thousands of reactions.
In the video, which is one minute and 15 seconds long, the young woman arrives by car in her neighborhood, and her mother is already outside the house, excited. Upon seeing each other, they share a long embrace, filled with kisses and tears, before the newcomer goes on to greet family, neighbors, and friends from the neighborhood in a scene of collective reunion.
The recording is accompanied by the song "Yo volveré," the lyrics of which precisely summarize what thousands of Cubans separated from their loved ones are experiencing: "I will return / To walk the street of my neighborhood / I will cry / I will feel sadness and I will be happy / Because despite everything / There is nothing like my people and my country."
This reunion adds to a trend that shows no signs of fading on TikTok. In recent weeks, a Cuban woman returned on her mother's birthday after four years apart, and her mother thought her daughter was traveling to Las Vegas. On July 27, a boy starred in another surprise reunion in the street in Cuba.
In June, a mother was overcome with emotion upon seeing her daughter and granddaughter arrive unexpectedly, and another young woman almost jumped out of the moving car out of excitement when she arrived in her neighborhood. In May, the entire neighborhood took to the streets to welcome an emigrant whose return was only known to his parents and a neighbor.
The song that accompanies the video expresses it straightforwardly: "And even as time passes, that will never change / Because here in my mind you will always have a place / And I am proud to have been born here / Because I am Cuban and I will die as a Cuban."
