A Cuban émigré returned to the island with her daughter to surprise her mother, creating one of the most emotional reunions circulating on social media this week, in a video posted on June 16 by the user @clau47169 (Nails_by_Clau) on TikTok.

The strategy was simple but effective: a third person approached the house first, knocked on the door, and asked the grandmother to come out "for a moment" and give her a glass of water.

The woman responded without suspecting anything: "Of course, my love, what happened?" and opened the entry gates.

On the other side, there was no one she was expecting. Her daughter Claudia and her granddaughter Tatiana appeared in front of her, and the mother was paralyzed with surprise before embracing both of them in tears.

"Ah Claudia, oh Claudia, Tatiana, Tatiana, mom, I can't take it anymore, I miss you," can be heard in the audio of the clip, which lasts one minute and 24 seconds.

Claudia herself describes in the video the emotional burden of returning: "I carry on my chest all the days that time did not allow me to be here."

In the post description, he wrote: "my arrival in Cuba, thank you my God for allowing me to embrace my elders again."

The clip is part of a viral trend of surprise reunions in Cuba that has reached a peak of activity on TikTok during June 2026, with multiple videos published on consecutive days.

On June 1, Isaura Moreno surprised her mother with a bouquet of sunflowers in a video that reached 86,500 views. On June 3, another Cuban arrived during a blackout, and the reunion was captured in the darkness. On June 4, a woman returned after seven years without anyone knowing she was coming. On June 13, Yali (@yalinita10) came back after four years and two months of separation.

One of the most impactful cases was that of Pedro Solano, who returned to Cuba after 20 years away and whose mother nearly fainted from excitement, in a video that garnered 710,000 views.

The emotional intensity of these clips has a concrete background: fewer and fewer Cuban émigrés are returning to the island. According to the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI), in 2025 only 228,091 Cubans residing abroad visited Cuba, a decrease of 22.6% compared to the 294,816 from 2024. In January 2026, that number plummeted by 40.2% compared to the same month of the previous year.

This lack of reunions turns every meeting into an extraordinary event, and its dissemination on social media deeply resonates with millions of Cubans separated from their families due to the migration crisis affecting the island.
