The ambassador of the Cuban regime in Mexico, Eugenio Martínez Enríquez, unleashed a barrage of messages on his X account on Tuesday to attack officials from the U.S. Department of State, whom he labeled as "liars" and "blabbermouths" of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in response to the increasing pressure from Washington on Havana.
In the first of his messages, published at 5:35 PM, the diplomat questioned the origin of the media representatives that have appeared on channels such as Fox News, Fox Business, and NBC 6 to discuss Cuba.
"Where did the Secretary of State find this group of liars who know nothing about Cuba but suddenly consider themselves experts on the 'Cuban threat,' parading in chorus on TV channels? One must have little shame to stammer lies as these envoys do," he pointed out.
Hours later, Martínez Enríquez went further and accused the State Department of orchestrating a propaganda operation: "Is it the algorithm deceiving me, or is there a desperate campaign underway by the State Department to insert its lies into U.S. media to justify the criminal blockade and invasion of Cuba? Unknown figures on TV lying at any hour while the State Department's account is agitated about Cuba."
One of its messages directly addressed the electrical crisis afflicting the island. Spokespeople from the State Department have stated that the blackouts in Cuba would cease if the Cuban government relinquished power.
"The claim repeatedly made by spokespersons (liars) from the State Department that if the Cuban government wanted to, blackouts would end simply by relinquishing power, is one of the most blatant calumnies that can be made," said Martínez Enríquez, who, along with his wife Johana Tablada, actively engages on social media to defend the official narrative of the Cuban regime and discredit its critics.
The ambassador omits that Cuba registered its sixth total blackout of the National Electric System this Monday in 2026, and that ordinary Cubans are facing power outages of more than 20 hours a day, food shortages, and an unprecedented crisis, the result of decades of management by the communist regime.
The electric crisis that burdens Cubans is not a fabrication of Washington, but a reality that the regime itself has been unable to hide.
The ambassador and his wife, Johana Tablada de la Torre —who serves as the second-in-command at the Cuban embassy in Mexico— have been actively leading a propaganda campaign on social media for months.
One day earlier, on Monday, Tablada had already attacked Rubio by stating that "one must have a pact with the devil" to act like him. Both were sent together to Mexico in early 2026 in what the regime presented as a joint appointment.
The diplomatic couple's verbal offensive comes in response to the maximum pressure exerted by the Trump administration on Havana.
On July 20, the Department of State published a report of about 100 pages titled "Cuba: The Capital of 21st Century Communism", in which it describes the island as a hub of espionage and infiltration that has operated against the U.S. for more than six decades.
Rubio has described Cuba as a "superpower of espionage" and stated that it is the only country that has systematically placed spies in U.S. institutions without even paying them.
