The ambassador and deputy head of mission of the Cuban Embassy in Mexico, Johana Tablada de la Torre, again lashed out at the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, whom she accused of promoting a strategy aimed at delivering a "fatal blow" to the Cuban regime.
By sharing on her social media a screenshot of the recent interview with Rubio on Fox News, Tablada wrote: "One must have a pact with the devil to dedicate hundreds of millions and personnel to chase even the air they breathe to suffocate a country and then go out proclaiming it is a failed state preparing the fatal blow."
The message was published in response to an interview in which Rubio referred to Cuba again as a failing state and defended Washington's pressure policy toward the island.
The statements from Tablada de la Torre come amid a new verbal offensive by regime officials against Rubio.
In recent days, the Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, the Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío, and other officials from MINREX have accused the Secretary of State of promoting a policy of economic suffocation and attempting to justify a greater tightening of U.S. sanctions against Havana.
The new publication by Tablada de la Torre reinforces that line of official discourse and confirms that Marco Rubio has become the main target of criticism from the Cuban diplomatic apparatus, which holds him responsible for promoting the maximum pressure strategy of the Donald Trump Administration against the island.
