The ambassador and deputy head of mission at the Embassy of Cuba in Mexico, Johana Tablada de la Torre, once again criticized the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, whom she accused of promoting a strategy aimed at delivering a "fatal blow" to the Cuban regime.
By sharing on her social media a screenshot of the recent interview with Rubio on Fox News, Tablada wrote: "One must make a pact with the devil to dedicate hundreds of millions and personnel to pursue even the air one breathes in order to suffocate a country, and then go out proclaiming it is a failed state preparing the fatal blow."
The message was published in response to an interview in which Rubio once again referred to Cuba as a failed state and defended Washington's pressure policy towards the island.
The statements from Tablada de la Torre come amid a new verbal offensive from regime officials against Rubio.
In recent days, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío, and other officials from MINREX have accused the Secretary of State of promoting a policy of economic suffocation and attempting to justify a further tightening of U.S. sanctions against Havana.
The new publication by Tablada de la Torre reinforces that line of official discourse and confirms that Marco Rubio has become the primary target of criticism from the Cuban diplomatic apparatus, which holds him responsible for promoting the Trump Administration's maximum pressure strategy against the island.
