A Cuban who had been away from the island for four years had an emotional reunion with his family at a Cuban airport, captured in a video posted on TikTok this past Monday by the user @maimoag.
The images capture the moment when the protagonist steps into the arrivals area and his mother runs towards him. They embrace in tears, while family and friends present at the scene burst into exclamations of joy: "Oh, how wonderful! Oh, how beautiful! Oh, my God!"
At the end of the video, which is one minute and 39 seconds long, only the words "my love, my love, my love" can be heard during the embrace.
The protagonist himself described the moment in the post's description: «4 years have passed without my mother's embrace, without the affection of my friends (those who are still here)… 4 years without stepping on this soil, this beautiful and suffering land that I love so much. I am immensely happy. Welcome back to myself, back home».
The video accumulated 13,700 views and 685 reactions in just a few days, adding to a well-established viral trend on TikTok in 2025 and 2026, where Cuban émigrés document their returns to the island and reunions with family members after years of separation.
This type of scene frequently occurs on Cuban social media. On July 31, a young man reunited with his mother after three years abroad. On July 28, Glenda's brother welcomed him barefoot at the airport after three years of separation, in a video that exceeded 27,700 views. In early July, another Cuban reunited with his son after four years in a video that surpassed 24,000 views.
Behind each of these reunions lies a reality that explains them: the massive exodus that has fragmented thousands of Cuban families.
In June, another Cuban returned to the island after 20 years and was able to hug his mother for the first time in two decades, in one of the most powerful reunions captured on social media this year.
