The Cuban content creator Jitana Melanie published a video to respond to those who accused her of fabricating her experience at the Barceló Sol y Mar Hotel in Varadero, a four-star resort with an all-inclusive plan where she went to celebrate her birthday.
This week, Melanie reported blackouts, lack of water, and poor food at the Hotel Sol y Mar, describing a facility that "doesn't even meet two stars" despite being marketed as four.
"After making several posts in Varadero reservation groups and especially on the Hotel Sol y Mar page, my post went out of control and the comments kept coming. Many supported me, but others said I was lying," the user explained in the post.
He made a clear decision to put an end to the doubts. He shared the video because: "one thing is to recount an experience and a very different one is to show it."
The footage recorded at the hotel begins with the junior suite that she stayed in, which has two floors. It features a living area, a bathroom on the lower level, and the bedroom on the upper floor. It was completely dark, with only natural light coming through the windows.
"A four-star hotel in Varadero, with no water and no electricity. That was my experience!" said the young woman.
She ensured that after complaining more than twice at the hotel reception, she was moved to another room with electricity and water, but without air conditioning. The solution lasted just a few minutes. The resort's generators collapsed, and the supply was not restored until five in the morning.
That night, as he recounts, he saw "adults and children sleeping in the hotel lobby, on the seats, on the floor."
The lack of electricity and water was compounded by the fact that there were no basic cleaning services in the rooms. "At no point did they come to change the sheets or towels," she pointed out.
The breakfast also did not meet the standards of the hotel's category and the price paid for the reservation. "There was only processed ham, butter, some cheese, and everything was monitored."
The beer was only served during restricted hours, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM by the pool and from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM at the lobby bar. "There was no service available 24 hours a day."
The only positive aspect of the entire stay was the beach area: "It was quite nice, with no stones and very clean." They also acknowledged the patience of some workers, although they had no real ability to solve the problems.
Users of Facebook groups focused on reservations in Varadero reported similar experiences: bathrooms with leaks, poor-quality bread "like the one from the corner store," desserts without sugar, and shredded chicken for groups of dozens of people.
“Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone, because you will end up wasting your money,” the young woman concluded.
