An elderly couple lost a suitcase containing medications, medical documents, clothing, and other personal belongings while traveling between Manzanillo and Pilón in the Granma province, after returning from an oncology hospital in Camagüey.
The complaint was published this Monday by Marilin Mas Peña in the Facebook group Pilón, open to everyone where she explained that the elderly were returning home after spending several months battling an illness that "no one wishes for anyone."
The theft reportedly occurred during the early hours «on the Manzanillo-Pilón train bus», according to the complainant, who did not clarify which mode of transport she was referring to, nor did she specify the exact location where the luggage disappeared or how the perpetrators managed to take it.
The suitcase was medium-sized and light brown; inside it were the documents provided by the hospital, which were to be presented in Manzanillo to continue the medical consultations, as well as the treatments and the few personal belongings that the elderly had brought during their hospital stay.
The complainant requested assistance in retrieving at least the medications and documentation, due to their importance for the continuity of medical care.
He also left a contact number in the original post for anyone who might have information.
"Touch your heart and think that no one wants to be in a hospital fighting cancer," wrote Mas Peña, lamenting that the elderly were stripped of the little they had when they finally returned home to rest.
The case adds to other recent reports of luggage thefts at facilities and transportation services in Cuba.
In July, a couple lost a suitcase at the Bayamo bus terminal while waiting for a Viazul trip. The husband even offered a laptop in exchange for the return of dresses and a pair of rings with sentimental value.
Another passenger reported in April that her luggage was tampered with at the Frank País International Airport in Holguín. Perfumes and boxes of cigars went missing from the suitcase, while an envelope containing documents related to a property was opened.
