The Cuban broadcaster, actress, and presenter Laritza Camacho and stated bluntly, "The typical, the normal... does not exist."
Camacho shared with his followers on Facebook a text titled “The Magic of Summer”. It begins by evoking what a gathering among Cuban friends should be — coffee, congrí, tostones, dominoes, music, overflowing generosity — only to immediately contrast it with the reality experienced on the island during the worst summer in decades.
"Our everyday magic has bread without flour and days without bread; money isn’t real, work is a struggle, transportation is a sweaty marathon, the past is a tease, the present is pain, and the future? Will it be?" he expressed.
One of the themes depicted in his text is the social and political situation in Cuba. "Criminals roam the streets freely, brave men are imprisoned, the order has been given, and excuses are glaringly absent," he noted.
The message from the popular communicator also references the massive exodus, both of citizens and athletes. She shared an image that summarizes a paradox during the competition times at the Central American Games: "The podium is filled with Cubans... the medals do not return to Cuba."
In July, Camacho stated that she is "against the Cuban government", as she believes that the regime is against Cuba. Furthermore, in another of her posts, she demanded that officials "take off their mask".
At the beginning of August, she issued a challenge to the members of the Communist Party and questioned whether Cubans can allow themselves to be happy amidst the collapse.
The voice of this Cuban woman carries a particular weight. She is not a dissident in exile or a figure detached from the system, but rather a professional who worked for years in state media such as Radio Ciudad de La Habana and now openly questions the regime while living in the country.
