Colombian singer Karol G spoke out following the devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Colombia on Monday, sharing a message of solidarity on her Instagram stories and announcing that her foundation will mobilize resources to address the emergency.

"In moments like this, we come together, we care for each other, and we support ourselves as a country," Karol wrote in her message, summarizing the spirit of solidarity that has characterized the response of Colombian society to one of the most destructive earthquakes in its recent history.

"My solidarity, my heart, and my prayers are with all the people affected by the earthquake in Colombia and with so many families who are going through moments of pain and uncertainty today," the artist, originally from Medellín, added in the post.

The artist also announced that her foundation, Con Cora, is directly addressing the crisis: "Through our foundation, we are working to respond to this emergency and find the best ways to support the affected families."

In addition, she directed her followers to two specific platforms for reporting or locating missing persons.

The 7.4 magnitude earthquake had its epicenter in San José del Palmar, in the Chocó department, and was recorded at 7:34 AM local time on Monday, August 10.

The seismic event, described by the Colombian Geological Service as the strongest in the country in the last decade, was felt in Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Manizales, Pereira, and Barranquilla, and also reached Ecuador and Panama.

The toll of the tragedy continues to rise, and the death toll is still increasing, surpassing 200 fatalities as of this Tuesday.

Karol G was not the only voice from the Colombian artistic world to rise up in the face of tragedy. Camilo, Maluma, J Balvin, and other artists also shared messages of solidarity with their people on the same Monday.

Shakira expressed her support for the affected families and called for the unity of Colombians during this very difficult time: "Dear Colombia, my heart is with all those who felt this earthquake today and with the families who are going through moments of distress. In such times, we Colombians know how to come together and support one another."
