If anything, the celebrations organized by the regime for the centenary of Fidel Castro have shown that, although the economy, medical services, or the energy system may collapse, propaganda never stops.
This Wednesday, in Holguín, the tribute extended to children's activities with the preparation of 100 piñatas dedicated to the deceased Cuban dictator.
The announcement was made by Joel Queipo Ruiz on Facebook, the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Holguín and a member of its Central Committee.
"100 piñatas in municipalities of Holguín for the Centenary of the Commander-in-Chief is one of the gifts for children on this International Youth Day," Queipo wrote.
The event took place this Wednesday, just one day before the centenary of Castro's birth, who was born on August 13, 1926, in Birán, in the area of the current province of Holguín.
The cameraman and photographer from Holguín, Eddi de la Pera, linked to the officialdom in Cuba, also presented the piñatas as a direct tribute to Castro.
"A heartfelt gift for our children on their day," wrote De la Pera on Facebook, noting that the activities were part of the tributes for the centenary.
"As part of the tributes for the Centenary of the Commander in Chief, and true to his maxim that 'children are the most sacred,' we have visited several municipalities in the province of Holguín with a very special gift: 100 piñatas!" he stated.
The message went beyond presenting piñatas as just a simple recreational activity.
According to De la Pera, each of them carried "the affection, the memory, and the commitment to keep Fidel's legacy alive", while the smiles of the children were, in his words, "the best tribute" to Castro's thought.
The presence of the former leader's figure did not end at the piñatas. The state-run newspaper Ahora reported on a "Sports Takeover" in the city of Holguín, also dedicated to the centenary, which was attended by children, young people, seniors, athletes, and families.
The event, held in areas near the Mayor General Calixto García Íñiguez Stadium, included ladies' activities, parlor games, cards, dominoes, chess, sack races, relays, stilt walking, ring toss, ball exercises, performances by Cubaila, and gymnastics demonstrations.
The medium itself noted that, as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Castro's birth, other activities were presented featuring around a hundred piñatas, along with culinary and cultural offerings.
The insistence on associating children's, sports, and recreational activities with the figure of Castro is part of a much broader political agenda.
Since 2025, authorities announced that the campaign for its centennial would include actions "in all areas of the life of the country", with the stated aim of promoting his convictions and ideals and enhancing the study and research of his thought.
The deployment has reached 2026 schools, universities, workplaces, cultural institutions, sporting events, and community activities.
The Government itself officially designated 2026 as "Year of the Centennial of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz", a designation proposed by Miguel Díaz-Canel before the National Assembly and subsequently formalized for the entire year.
The expressions of tribute have even reached unusual settings. In April, a culinary forum in Las Tunas featured dishes decorated with references to Castro, including a salad with the phrase "LONG LIVE FIDEL" made with strips of bell pepper and the number 100 formed from slices of cucumber.
