Seven young Cuban baseball players arrived in Mexico to participate in the International Baseball Tournament "Camino Real," which will take place in Campeche from August 18 to 23, as reported by specialized journalist Francys Romero.
The group, primarily composed of pitchers, brings together prospects from six different provinces of the Island.
Among the right-handed pitchers called up are Marlon García (Pinar del Río), Crislan Frómeta (Santiago de Cuba), Yanier Gutiérrez Gallo (Ciego de Ávila), and Alaín Torres (Holguín).
The roster is completed by the pitcher José Raúl Brito (Villa Clara), the catcher Kevin Nieto, and the outfielder Vicente Remón, both from Camagüey.
The name that grabs the most attention within the group is that of the Pinar del Río native Marlon García, regarded as the most developed talent among the seven selected.
García was part of the Cuban U-18 team that competed in the World Championship held in Okinawa, Japan, in September 2025. He served as a starting pitcher and had notable performances: he pitched five innings, allowing only one hit against South Africa, and completed another game with five strikeouts and two hits against Puerto Rico.
Cuba finished seventh in that tournament with a record of three wins and three losses in total, including the consolation round, where they defeated Germany 4-3.
The "Camino Real" tournament represents a new opportunity for Cuban prospects to gain visibility in front of potential Major League scouts in Mexican territory during six days of competition.
Mexico and the Dominican Republic have established themselves as the main transit destinations for young Cuban baseball players seeking to sign with MLB organizations. During the 2025-2026 period, this route enabled almost 40 Cuban prospects to sign contracts with teams in American professional baseball.
Participation in international tournaments on Mexican soil has become a common avenue for young talents from the Island to showcase their skills outside of Cuba, and in many cases, it represents the first step towards a professional contract.
The best Cuban prospects today have followed that very path, with Mexico serving as a key stage for their international projection.
Marlon García's performance in the 2025 U-18 World Cup positions him as the most promising prospect among the group that traveled to Campeche, and his performance in the "Camino Real" tournament will be closely monitored by those evaluating the emerging talent in Cuban baseball.
