Alexei Munive-Rodríguez, a 48-year-old Cuban from Ciego de Ávila, was arrested in Colorado following an extensive state-wide search triggered by the murder of a woman that took place in the city of Northglenn, where the victim was stabbed.

On Saturday morning, agents from the Lamar County Police, deputies from the Prowers County Sheriff's Office, and Colorado State Patrol troopers located Munive-Rodríguez hiding in a field and arrested him without incident.

«Alexei Munive-Rodríguez is now in custody following an extensive search that began after the homicide on Friday night in Northglenn,» reported the Northglenn police department on Facebook.

The crime occurred around 10:03 PM on August 14th in the 10500 block of Irma Drive, in Northglenn, a city in the northern metropolitan area of Denver.

The agents responded to a report of a stabbing and upon arriving at the scene, found a woman with knife wounds. Despite attempts to save her life, they were unable to prevent her death.

Relatives and close friends identified the victim on social media as Mayle Vega, also known as Mayle Braustein, who is originally from Ciego de Ávila.

According to those sources, Vega and Munive-Rodríguez were in a relationship and had a child together.

The official statements from the Police have not formally confirmed the identity of the victim or the nature of the relationship; that confirmation falls to the Office of the Medical Examiner of Adams County.

After quickly identifying Munive-Rodríguez as a suspect, the Northglenn Police Department issued a

During the search, a Lincoln County Sheriff's Office agent attempted to stop a vehicle linked to the investigation, but the driver did not stop.

The chase ended when the vehicle crashed near Lamar, in the southeastern part of the state, about 180 miles from Northglenn and close to the Kansas border, suggesting that the individual attempted to flee in the opposite direction of Denver after the crime.

The Cuban fled on foot, but not for long.

He will now remain detained in Adams County while the investigation and criminal proceedings continue.

The Gender Observatory of Alas Tensas (OGAT) has classified the case as femicide and expressed its condolences to Mayle's minor son and to her family.

The case adds to a documented pattern of violence against Cuban women abroad. According to an investigation by OGAT, in 2025 there were 12 femicides of Cuban women outside of Cuba, six of which occurred in the United States, and most were perpetrated by partners or ex-partners.

This is not the first time a crime of this nature with Cuban connections has been reported in the northern area of Denver. In December 2023, the young Cuban woman Sachely Díaz, aged 20, was stabbed to death in Federal Heights, a city adjacent to Northglenn, and the suspect was captured in Mexico months later.

In April 2025, Cándido Raúl Rubio Pérez was arrested in Nashville accused of taking the life of his ex-wife in front of an elementary school; and earlier this year, Cuban doctor José Emilio Galán Preval was sentenced in Las Vegas to between 14 and 35 years in prison for the crime against his partner.
