A video by a Puerto Rican content creator attempting to explain the history of the Cuban distribution sparked a storm on social media, especially between El Chulo and Dany Ome, two of the most recognized figures in the genre.
The spark was ignited by a video posted on TikTok by the account @kuzioficial, where the author described four stages of Cuban distribution: Elvis Manuel, Chocolate MC, El Taiger, and Bebeshito. The problem for El Chulo was a simple one: his name was nowhere to be found.
The artist quickly responded with a post on Instagram that garnered over 10,300 likes.
"For all those music historians with a narrow view who are not even Cuban, given the nonsense spouted by those YouTubers, history doesn't change... get informed, because history is not what they're telling you," he wrote.
It was in the comments section where things got more heated. Dany Ome, instead of joining in the outrage, came to the defense of the Puerto Rican creator: “Poor thing, she is one of the few people who is helping us, so I don’t blame her.”
El Chulo responded directly, without losing affection but also expressing his annoyance: "Come on, you know you're my life; I respect everyone, but that's a huge disrespect... as long as I'm alive, they won't erase the story... I'm extremely insulted."
Dany Ome acknowledged that the video had errors — "she was given wrong information" — but insisted that the creator's intentions were good and that her work was helping to raise awareness of the genre outside of Cuba.
The discussion didn't stay in the comments. Dany Ome took the exchange to his Instagram stories with a message that sounded like a jab: "Mmmmm apparently those who really know also don't have leaders. Thank goodness there are still those of us who respect but also demand respect."
Meanwhile, El Chulo posted several stories claiming his place in the history of the cast.
And just in case anyone doubted his mood, El Chulo capped off the day with another story in which he declared having "six zeros" in his bank account and being one of the "3 millionaires of the Repartero genre": "I've already WON."
Dany Ome, for his part, arrives at this crossroads at one of his best moments: together with Kevincito El 13, he released "Paciente" featuring Ozuna in April and has a collaboration with Wisin on the way, which positions him as one of the most internationally recognized artists in the lineup at this moment.
