Eddy Ceballos's family, creator of the satirical channel Despingovery Channel, received on Tuesday the rejection of the complaint filed in his defense, while the young man remains in pretrial detention three months after his arrest.
The decision was reported by her mother, Marieta Pérez, who explained in a post on Facebook that the authorities are maintaining the accusation of revealing secrets related to State Security, and that the case is now pending before the Military Court.
"We received the denial of the complaint filed in the case of Eddy Ceballos. The reason remains that Eddy has committed a crime against state security," he wrote.
Pérez also questioned the evidence used against his son and reported that he remains imprisoned despite the family's appeals.
"It doesn't matter what he, his family, his friends, public opinion, or even the scant and dubious evidence against him think; Eddy remains in preventive detention, conveniently spending his days behind bars," he stated.
Three months in preventive detention
Ceballos was , in Havana, after publishing a video in which he explored an abandoned military facility that featured Soviet missiles, radar systems, and deteriorated bunkers.
Initially, he was charged with "invasion of military property," a figure that Cubalex reported as nonexistent in the current Penal Code of Cuba.
Subsequently, the case was reclassified as "disclosure of secrets concerning State Security," as outlined in Article 116 of the Penal Code and under military jurisdiction.
During the three months since his arrest, the family has reported several irregularities. In June, his mother claimed that Ceballos had been physically assaulted while in custody.
In July, his family reported that they were prevented from visiting him after his transfer from Combinado del Este to the detention center at 100 and Aldabó.
More recently, on August 19, the Prosecutor's Office rejected a request for a change of precautionary measure filed by the defense.
From prison, Ceballos also sent a letter in which he rejected the accusations against him and defined himself as "an artist, not a spy," in addition to describing issues with food and access to water during his confinement.
Her mother stated on Tuesday that the family will continue to demand her freedom despite the exhaustion accumulated over these months.
"It has been three months of worry and pain. Let this serve to keep us active, working to keep Eddy alive, both literally and metaphorically. Fainting is not an option for us," he concluded.
