The Cuban musician Alain Pérez joined this Sunday in the solidarity campaign for the comedian and digital creator Eddy Ceballos by sharing on his Facebook profile a photo of the young man along with the message: “Eddy is Innocent... freedom.”
The statement comes hours after Ceballos' mother, Marieta Pérez Alfaro, shared a letter written by her son from prison in which he denies the espionage charges brought against him by the Cuban regime.
In that letter, Ceballos wrote from prison: "I am an artist, not a spy; a humorist who reveals the reality that is visible to all, not a criminal."
Ceballos closed his letter with a phrase that encapsulates the spirit of his campaign: "I hold onto the hope of meeting again to continue sharing the chronicles of the chaos in the streets of my beloved, battered, and broken Havana. With faith and love intact."
The creator of the satirical channel Despingovery Channel has been detained for two months without the case going to trial.
He was arrested on June 1, 2026 in the Diez de Octubre municipality, Havana, during an operation by State Security, just days after posting a video in which he explored an abandoned military facility containing Soviet missiles from the 1960s, radar systems, and Cold War bunkers.
The initial accusation was "invasion of military property," a charge that the legal organization Cubalex reported as nonexistent in the current Cuban Penal Code.
Subsequently, the case was reclassified under Article 116 of the Penal Code for "revelation of secrets concerning State Security," a crime that can incur penalties ranging from 10 to 30 years, life imprisonment, or even the death penalty.
The family has indicated that the filmed installation had been deactivated in 2025.
The regime also detained the cameraman from the channel, Christian Rodríguez Riverón, who remains imprisoned in Boyeros facing similar charges of espionage.
Ceballos' wife, Daniela Escarra, has been one of the strongest voices in denouncing the situation.
"I am convinced that there is an attempt to turn Eddy into an example to send a message of fear to others," Escarra publicly declared in July.
Alain Pérez is not the first public figure to speak out on the matter: the comedian Ulises Toirac also expressed his support for Ceballos in June, noting that his fears regarding communication laws in Cuba were being confirmed.
The musician, who resides outside of Cuba, has a history of statements against the regime's repression: during the 11J protests in 2021, he publicly condemned the official violence, and in June of this year, he raised his voice regarding the electricity crisis with the message "I join my people's pain and denounce."
