A Cuban woman traveled from the United States to Cuba to surprise her best friend. Without notifying her of her return, she arrived at her building and, from below, began shouting for her to come outside. The reaction upon discovering who was waiting turned the moment into an emotional reunion that was captured on video.
The protagonist, known on TikTok as ThaliaJewelry, shared the 35-second clip with the hashtags #reunion, #friendsreunion, and #cuba. The images have already garnered nearly 57,000 views and have excited thousands on social media.
The comments came in quickly, and they were, as often happens in these cases, a perfect blend of tenderness, nostalgia, and unfiltered Cuban humor. Someone wrote: "I take that back, that’s not your friend! That’s your sister." Another simply said: "Those friend reunions are truly beautiful." And then there was the one who garnered all the applause in the comments section: "I did it too, but at night and during a blackout."
That last phrase says it all. Because in Cuba, even the most beautiful surprises come with their share of reality.
Others shared their own dreams in the comments: "I hope one day I can go to see mine," wrote a user, capturing that tone that blends hope and resignation familiar to any Cuban from afar.
This kind of surprise reunion has become a solid trend on TikTok within the Cuban community. The massive emigration in recent years has separated families and friends for months or even years, and many emigrants choose to return unannounced to capture that exact moment: the expression of the person who opens the door and cannot believe what they see.
There have been reunions after seven years apart, after four, and even after 40 years. And although we don't know how long they had been separated in this case, the joy of seeing each other again makes it clear how much they had missed one another.
