New journalistic leads suggest that Ana Adis Cardero Pacheco, mother-in-law of Alejandro Castro Espín and identified since June as a resident of Hialeah, Florida, reportedly provided false information to the State Department to conceal her marriage to a colonel of the Cuban regime, according to an exclusive by journalist Mario J. Pentón published this Sunday.
According to sources consulted by Pentón, Cardero Pacheco reportedly provided U.S. authorities with a name different from that of her real husband, Colonel Hugo Leandro Rueda Jomarrón, during the processing of a tourist visa she obtained in Mexico in 2013. Providing false information in such matters before the Department of State constitutes a federal offense in the United States.
Rueda Jomarrón is mentioned in news reports for his connections to the founding of the Eastern Army and the Revolutionary National Militias of Cuba, as well as for organizing the repression of dissent and the confiscation of property in Santiago de Cuba.

The military officer is also said to have participated in missions in Angola and Nicaragua, and is reported to have received personal tributes from Raúl Castro.
Cardero Pacheco entered the United States in 2013 with a tourist visa, remained there irregularly, and obtained permanent residency in 2023 through the Cuban Adjustment Act. Despite residing in Hialeah, he frequently travels to Cuba.
Her daughter Annalie Lilliam Rueda Cardero, wife of Alejandro Castro Espín, was sanctioned by Washington on June 23, 2026 as an adult relative of Castro Espín, under Executive Order 14404. The sanctions block properties and interests of those designated in U.S. territory or under the control of individuals of that nationality.
Alejandro Castro Espín, the only son of Raúl Castro, had been sanctioned on June 4, 2026 along with President Miguel Díaz-Canel and other members of the Cuban state apparatus.
Another daughter of Cardero Pacheco, Meurys Yisell Rueda Cardero, also lives in South Florida and is a U.S. citizen, according to the initial investigation by Martí Noticias published in June.
The first revelation about the presence of Cardero Pacheco in Hialeah sparked political reactions, including statements from Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart regarding the presence of relatives of regime officials on U.S. soil.
This new installment of the investigation adds a potentially serious legal dimension to the case by pointing to a possible falsehood in a federal immigration process. Pentón concluded his publication with a question that captures the ongoing debate: "Will there be any consequences?"
