A cab driver from Cárdenas, Matanzas, was at the center of a story of honesty after returning a phone that a young woman had forgotten in his car and also surprising everyone by revealing that he still had a small sandal lost by a child about four months ago.
The activist Christian Arbolaez reported this Wednesday on Facebook that the carriage driver, identified as Luis Felipe, returned to the spot where he had left the young woman when he realized she had forgotten her phone.
However, during the conversation, another story came up. They told the driver that, about four months prior, the son of a neighbor had lost a flip-flop in that same vehicle.
The surprise came when Luis Felipe revealed that he still had it.
"About four months had passed, and that man had not discarded her. He kept her in his car in case one day the person who lost her showed up," the activist explained.
In this way, on the same day he returned the phone, that small flip-flop also appeared, which had been stored away for months waiting for someone to claim it.
"Two completely different objects and a same way of acting," summarized Arbolaez, who emphasized that the coachman could have kept the phone or discarded the flip-flop, but he did neither of those things.
"Sometimes honesty is shown precisely this way, when no one forces you to do the right thing," he reflected.
The activist closed his post with a phrase that quickly summed up the gesture: “There are still good people left”.
In the midst of such economic misery, there are still people who exhibit the most beautiful traits of humanity.
In this regard, the story of the coachman recalls another episode that recently occurred in Cárdenas, where a bicitaxista returned a suitcase that had been left behind in his vehicle, an action that also garnered numerous praises on social media.
Similar cases have been reported in other provinces. In early September, a driver returned a phone lost by a teenager during a family emergency in Cienfuegos, after the minor left it behind during the trip to the hospital.
In May, the story of a young coachman who touched hearts on social media with a gesture of solidarity also went viral, another one of those everyday episodes that stand out amidst the difficulties facing the country.
