The Council of State of Cuba officially announced a series of changes in the leadership and composition of the Supreme People's Court (TSP) on Wednesday. These changes include the replacement of a vice president, shifts in the leadership of the Commercial Chamber, three retirements, and the election of three new magistrates.
The decisions are outlined in seven agreements, from 631-X to 637-X, published in the . Although all were adopted on August 19, their official publication occurred this Wednesday.
One of the main movements affects Farah Maritza Saucedo Pérez, who was released "for renewal" from her positions as vice president of the Supreme Court and president of the Constitutional Rights Protection Chamber.
This is established by the , adopted at the proposal of the president of the TSP.
In another development, Yomays Olivarez Gainza was promoted and elected as vice president of the Supreme People's Court.
The changes also affected the Commercial Court. The approved the resignation of Liliana Hernández Díaz as president of that chamber and her removal from the judicial position.
To fill the position, the Council of State promoted and elected Mirelys Reyes Vega as the new president of the Commercial Chamber, according to the .
The resignation of Raiza López Varona from the Judiciary System was also accepted, upon the proposal of the president of the TSP, in accordance with the .
The reorganization also includes the retirement of three judges from the Supreme People’s Court: Odalys Quintero Silverio, Isabel Inés Arredondo Suárez, and Alina Bielsa Palomo.
At the same time, the State Council elected Fernando Vázquez Franco, Liliam Pérez Castillo, and Lesly Vidal Álvarez as new magistrates of the highest court.
The seven agreements were signed by Juan Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State, and are based on the Constitution, Law 131 "On the Organization and Functioning of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State," and Law 140 "On the Courts of Justice."
The changes occurred months after the shift in the presidency of the TSP itself. In December 2025, Rubén Remigio Ferro was replaced by Óscar Silvera Martínez, who took office in February 2026.
That reorganization of the judicial leadership ushered in a period of changes that now continues with new replacements, resignations, retirements, and appointments in the highest court in Cuba.
