A dentist was shot and killed on Saturday afternoon in the rear parking lot of Plaza Galerías, located in Supermanzana 2 in downtown Cancun.
This concerns the Mexican Jesús Apache Medina, a former American football player from UNAM, who was murdered in Cancun.
Medina had just finished his workday and was heading to his car—a white Seat Ibiza—when he was approached by two men on a motorcycle. The assailants shot him and fled the scene.
The body lay next to the vehicle in the parking area. The attackers fled immediately without being intercepted.
Workers and visitors at the plaza reported the incident to 911, prompting the response of the Municipal Police of Cancun, who secured the area.
Paramedics from a private company arrived at the scene but confirmed that Medina no longer showed vital signs.
Subsequently, agents from the Attorney General's Office of the State of Quintana Roo, from the Homicide unit, opened an investigation file and gathered evidence at the crime scene. Family members of the victim also arrived and were interviewed by the investigative personnel.
The body was transferred to the Forensic Medical Service for the required autopsy.
As of this Monday, authorities had not reported any arrests in connection with the homicide. The State Attorney General's Office is continuing its investigations to determine the motive and identify those responsible.
