Three young girls, aged 15, 16, and 17, were struck by a vehicle this Tuesday while crossing at a marked crosswalk in Miramar, Florida. They were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, but are in stable condition, according to local police reports to Telemundo 51.
The incident occurred shortly before 6:15 a.m. at the intersection of Miramar Parkway and South Douglas Road, when the teenage girls—students from Miramar High School heading to class—were struck by a Dodge Challenger traveling north.
At least one of the young women had more serious injuries than the other two, although none were in life-threatening condition, according to authorities.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, called the police, and cooperated with the investigators from the very beginning.
The investigation focuses on determining who had the right of way, as the accounts of the driver and the victims are contradictory.
"They were crossing east on Douglas Rd and a vehicle was traveling north. When they reached the intersection, they somehow collided. The driver says they had the green light. The young women say they had the signal to cross," explained Delrish Moss, chief of the Miramar Police.
The authorities will review the surveillance cameras in the area and analyze the traffic signals to clarify the events.
"We need to review the cameras in the area, check the signals. We also took measurements to determine if speed was a factor. It doesn't seem to have been, but we need to verify everything," Moss added.
As the investigation progressed, the eastbound lanes of Miramar Parkway and the southbound lanes of South Douglas Road remained closed to traffic.
The area is not unfamiliar with this type of incidents. The intersection where the accident occurred was ranked as the second most accident-prone location in the city during the period from 1996 to 1999, with 36 recorded collisions, accounting for 17% of the total in the municipal report from the Miramar Police.
Students who walk through the area daily reported that the danger of walking to school feels familiar to them. Mateo Cruz, one of the students, shared that he himself was nearly hit by a car in the same area: “An old lady, I don’t know what she was doing, didn’t yield and almost ran me over.”
The south of Florida has recorded several incidents involving minors in Broward County during 2026. In July, a mother accidentally ran over her 19-month-old son as she was reversing her truck in West Park, and the baby passed away in the hospital.
In April, a driver was arrested for hitting an 11-year-old boy who was on his way to school in Miami Gardens.
As of the time of publication, no charges had been filed against the driver of the Dodge Challenger, and the investigation remained active.
