María Vargas celebrated her daughter Sofía's tenth birthday on Wednesday with an emotional reel posted on her Instagram account, in which she dedicated loving words to the little girl and showcased, once again, that her father, Cuban singer Alexander Delgado, a member of Gente de Zona, was not physically present at the celebration.
In the video shared on Instagram, Vargas appears alongside Sofía, reads her a letter, and conveys a message from her father: "Your dear daddy says that he can't be here with you, but he wishes you a happy birthday and that he will come to be with us soon."
In the description of the post, the mother wrote: "HAPPY BIRTHDAY love of my life, today I celebrate your life with much joy, you have become a very beautiful and affectionate girl, you are intelligent and very cheerful, I am so fortunate to be your mom that I still can't believe you are mine, these have been the 10 best years of my entire life."
Sofía was born in September 2016 in Canada, the result of a brief relationship between Vargas and Delgado.
Her existence became public in December 2017, when her mother revealed in an interview with Telemundo that she had a daughter with the artist and was seeking recognition of paternity and child support.
After a DNA test conducted in 2018, Delgado publicly acknowledged Sofía as his biological daughter.
The relationship between the parents has been marked by recurring tensions and media conflicts over the years.
On Sofia's eighth birthday, in September 2024, her mother publicly reported that Alexander Delgado did not call the girl that day and also did not give her the puppy he had promised as a gift.
On this occasion, however, Vargas's tone is conciliatory and focused on celebration.
The letter read in the video includes a particularly emotional line: "I remember the first time I saw you. As if it were yesterday."
Sofía, who has her own Instagram account (@sofia.vargas.oficial), is one of the three children of Alexander Delgado, along with Kuki Delgado, her eldest daughter, and Alex Jr., her son with the ex-partner Mily Alemán, who turned 13 years old at the beginning of August.
In 2022, Delgado did travel to Canada to celebrate Sofía's sixth birthday alongside his eldest daughter Kuki, in one of the moments of greatest connection between father and daughter that has become public.
The birthday reel ends with a loving message from the mother: "Happy birthday, my life, I love you with all my heart, mommy."
