The Cuban comedian Ulises Toirac responded this Thursday, in his usual ironic tone, to those who question his public opinions and tell him to be quiet: «Shut up your chickens!».
Toirac shared on an image accompanied only by the phrase "With all my affection."
"If I criticize this, there are those who want me to be quiet. If I criticize that, just the same, someone tells me to shut up", can be read in the image posted by the comedian, who concludes with the expression that titles his message: "Shut up your hens!".
The publication comes after several months in which Toirac has used his social media to express opinions about the Cuban reality, government management, and, recurrently, the freedom to think and express different viewpoints.
In September, the comedian defended respectful dialogue and freedom of thought, stating that "freedom begins in the brain" and that being free means having "a thirst for new ideas and recognizing another's viewpoint."
He also stated then that he always appeals "to respect, to enriching conversation, to objective and informed discussion."
A month earlier, he had published another reflection in which he stated that “the first freedom is that of thought. And the most difficult,” while questioning the polarization and extremist views that, in his opinion, hinder dialogue among Cubans.
Toirac had already turned to humor to directly respond to those who attack him for his posts.
In June, after a user called him a "mercenary" for his criticisms of economic measures announced by the government, he responded with irony to the accusation and later wrote: "Sometimes they make it too easy for me."
In his recent posts, the actor and comedian has emphasized that his social media serves as a space to express his views as a citizen and an artist.
In February, he explicitly stated that his Facebook account is not "the profile of a politician", while continuing to advocate for the exchange of opinions without aggression or insults.
