This is how the MININT returned stolen appliances to their owners in Guantánamo

The Ministry of the Interior (MININT) organized a public event in the Caribbean People's Council, in the municipality of Guantánamo, to return to four victims some of the property that was stolen from them during recent robberies and violent incidents in that area.

The operation, shared on social media by the official page "Guantánamo y su Verdad", follows a format that the MININT and the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) have been repeating for years in various provinces of the country.

Among the recovered and returned items are a combustion engine, washing machines, EcoFlow equipment, fans, and other goods, according to the video shared on Facebook.

The recovery of these items is particularly significant amid the energy crisis that has led to power outages of more than 20 hours a day in some areas in 2026. Portable power generation equipment, such as EcoFlow —which ranges in price from $549 to over $1,150— has become the most sought-after target for thieves.

A Cuban mother reported in early September the theft of her EcoFlow and solar panel in Matanzas, amidst a wave of thefts of these devices in various provinces.

During the event in Guantánamo, community members accompanied the victims and, according to the official video, "acknowledged the efforts of the authorities in addressing these incidents."

The president of the Caribbean People's Council called to "strengthen unity, increase vigilance, and maintain active participation from all neighbors."

Since at least 2023, the MININT has been staging similar events throughout the country, always following the same script: uniformed personnel present, neighbors as witnesses, speeches from local authorities, and extensive dissemination on social media and state television.

In April 2026, the PNR held a public event to return stolen goods in Punta Gorda, Cienfuegos. That same month, MININT repeated the format in Isla de la Juventud to return a television stolen from a senior citizens' home. In August, the police in Camagüey organized another public event with the same purpose.
