A new failure in the gas pipeline that supplies the manufactured gas plants in Havana will leave seven municipalities in the capital without service from 10:00 p.m. this Sunday until Monday morning, according to authorities.
The affected municipalities will be Plaza de la Revolución, Habana Vieja, Centro Habana, 10 de Octubre, Cerro, Playa, and Marianao, according to a statement from the Manufactured Gas Company released by CUPET.
"Due to an unforeseen breakdown in the pipeline that transports raw materials to the production plants, it will be necessary to carry out an intervention to resolve the issue," explained the company.
The interruption will begin at 10:00 p.m. and will affect both manufactured gas distribution networks in the capital.
The company stated that once the repairs are completed, the service will be gradually restored, although it did not specify an exact time for its normalization.
The new problem arises just hours after CUPET announced the restoration of service to customers affected by the fire that occurred on Saturday on Tulipán Street in Plaza de la Revolución.
The incident occurred while a crew was performing excavation work with heavy machinery to repair another breakdown, and it left six workers injured. According to the latest update from CUPET, four were already at home and two remained hospitalized under observation, with no danger to their lives.
Gas outages have been recurring in Havana over the past few months. On August 10, a failure in the Canasí collection center specifically impacted those seven municipalities.
Days earlier, on July 30, the authorities had announced a complete service interruption for maintenance and calibration work, while on September 18, issues were again reported due to insufficient natural gas to reach the necessary pressures.
The recurrence of these issues has heightened the discontent among residents of the capital. In August, a prolonged interruption of supply even led to a pot-banging protest in Plaza de la Revolución, one of the municipalities that will once again be without gas this Sunday.
