CUPET announced an interruption of manufactured gas service in seven municipalities of Havana, scheduled from 10:00 PM this Sunday until Monday morning, due to an unforeseen breakdown in the pipeline that transports the raw material to the production plants.
The affected municipalities will be Plaza de la Revolución, Habana Vieja, Centro Habana, 10 de Octubre, Cerro, Playa, and Marianao, according to a statement from the Manufactured Gas Company released by CUPET.
"Due to an unforeseen malfunction in the pipeline that transports the raw material to the production plants, an intervention will be necessary to resolve the issue," the company explained.
The interruption has been scheduled from 10:00 p.m. and affects the municipalities served by both manufactured gas distribution networks.
The company indicated that once the repairs are completed, the service will be gradually restored, although it did not specify an exact time for normalization.
The new issue arises just hours after CUPET announced the restoration of service to customers affected by the fire that occurred on Saturday on Tulipán Street in Plaza de la Revolución.
The incident occurred while a crew was conducting excavation work with heavy machinery to repair another breakdown, resulting in six injured workers. According to the latest update from CUPET, four are already at home and two remain hospitalized under observation, out of danger.
Gas outages have been recurring in Havana over the past few months. On August 10, a failure at the Canasí collection center specifically affected those seven municipalities.
Days earlier, on July 30th, authorities announced a complete service interruption for maintenance and calibration work, while on September 18th, interruptions due to insufficient natural gas were reported again to achieve the necessary pressures.
The recurrence of these problems has heightened discontent among residents of the capital. In August, a prolonged interruption in supply even resulted in a pot-banging protest in Plaza de la Revolución, one of the municipalities once again affected by the gas cut.
