Within 24 hours, power was restored to J Street, in La Cuchilla, the neighborhood of Palma Soriano, which had been without electricity for over 15 days following a transformer explosion.
The solution came the day after one of the residents in the area contacted CiberCuba and reported that they were being ignored in Santiago de Cuba when they called to complain and report the incident, and that Beatriz Johnson, the first secretary of the Communist Party, had also not visited the town, despite promising to see the issue with her own eyes.
CiberCuba published the case on September 28. A neighbor explained that workers from the Electric Union (UNE) had initially come to the area and declared the malfunction resolved, but as soon as they left the town with the UNE truck, the transformer caught fire. Despite the neighborhood still being without power, when those affected called Santiago de Cuba, they were told that the issue was recorded as resolved.
The resident also reported that Beatriz Johnson Urrutia, the first secretary of the Communist Party in Santiago de Cuba, had promised to visit La Cuchilla to assess the situation. According to her testimony, the neighbors waited for her, but the leader did not show up in the neighborhood.
The report was published on CiberCuba on September 28. The next day, September 29, workers from the UNE arrived at La Cuchilla to address and finally resolve the issue.
The images sent by the neighbors themselves show a truck with a crane and workers directly working on the pole and handling the transformer.
After 15 days of waiting, calls, and claims without results, the malfunction received attention less than 24 hours after it was made public on CiberCuba.
