Two elderly adults lost their lives and a minor was hospitalized following a collision that occurred on Saturday night in La Palma, Pinar del Río, according to information shared by the platform NiO Reportando Un Crimen on their social media, which was confirmed in comments from community residents.

According to the report, the two fatalities were traveling on a motorcycle when they were struck by a car. Both died as a result of the impact. The younger victim was taken to a hospital, although her health status has not been clarified at this time.

Neighbors who commented on the post identified the deceased as Aleida Alfonso and Julio Pajón, known in their community as "Julito Pajón." According to one of the comments, both lived in La Mulata, a rural area of the municipality. "Aleida Alfonso and Julito Pajón are the victims, they are my neighbors from La Mulata," wrote Dennys Carballo.

Another user, Marta Válido, specified the exact location of the incident: "It was in front of the meteorology office, arriving at CPA La Ceja. God, may the girl recover quickly."

The reactions of those who knew the victims reflected the pain of the community. "My friend Julio, a very special person," lamented Noel Almora. For her part, Elizabeth Santos wrote: "That news left me very sad; I knew Julito well, a tremendous and humble person, and I didn't know his wife but I feel very sorry for her as well."

According to the version collected by NiO Reportando Un Crimen, the driver of the car is reportedly the brother of a local resident and allegedly drove the vehicle while intoxicated. The platform clarified that this information "must be officially confirmed during the investigation."

The accident adds to a road accident crisis in Cuba that shows no signs of letting up. In 2025, there were 7,538 accidents, resulting in 750 fatalities and over 6,700 injuries. By the first quarter of 2026, there had already been 153 deaths on the road. Motorcycles account for more than 52% of the country's traffic incidents, 32% of the deaths, and 42% of the injuries.

This is not the first recent tragedy on the roads of Pinar del Río. At the end of September, a driver fled the scene after a collision that left a family looking for the responsible party, while in the middle of the same month, a woman died and seven others were injured in another incident on the island.
