A collision between a truck and a passenger bus occurred this morning on the Central Highway, near the community of San Blas, in the Florida municipality, Camagüey province, resulting in one fatality and eight injured individuals, according to Radio Camagüey on its social media.

The eight injured individuals are not in life-threatening condition. One patient is reported in serious condition but is currently stable. She has a pelvic fracture, with no cranial or thoracic trauma posing a threat to her life at this moment, according to Doctor Alexander González Borges, a specialist in 2nd degree in Intensive Care and 1st degree in Internal Medicine.

The doctor indicated that the patient is receiving combined treatment from orthopedics and intensivists, and that a CT scan is already being coordinated to determine the most appropriate management for her case.

Radio Camagüey reported the identity of the deceased. It is Oney Castillo Matos, 39 years old, a mechanic for the truck involved in the incident.

"On the morning of this Tuesday, October 6, between 6:15 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., on the Central Highway, kilometer 544, in the San Blas popular council in Camagüey, the Viazul bus 890, which was operating the route from Santiago de Cuba to Havana, collided with a truck from the company EsAzúcar that was parked due to technical issues," stated the official media.

Images began circulating on social media from the accident site. User Sandro Alexander Barbet Valdés posted a video in the Facebook group "Everything is sold here Revolico Florida," where he showed the location of the incident and expressed his condolences to the victim's family.

The bus was scheduled for the 10:00 PM route and was reportedly transporting nine passengers. "Through an agreement between the National Bus Company and Viazul, the transfer of those who could continue their journey to their destination was ensured," according to the Camagüey broadcasting station.

In January, another mass accident at that same Curva de Ignacio resulted in two fatalities —including a seven-year-old child— and more than thirty injured.

In February, an incident in Guáimaro involved 56 people, with five injured in serious condition.

At the end of September, a trailer loaded with sugar overturned in Florida, the same municipality where the collision occurred this Tuesday.
