Dr. Rodolfo Domínguez Rosabal, director of the provincial hospital, reported that patient Josvanny López Vidal, 51 years old, a resident of Mariel in the province of Artemisa, suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and is in critical condition, on ventilation and in danger of death.

The critically ill patient is Leonardo Frómeta Batista, 28 years old, from the municipality of Calixto García in the province of Holguín, who has sustained moderate traumatic brain injury, noted Dr. Domínguez to the local media.

He explained that the day before, four patients underwent surgery, receiving major procedures.

According to the report, cited by Televisión Camagüey and Radio Cadena Agramonte, the remaining injured individuals, including those who underwent surgeries for orthopedic injuries, were still reported to be in serious condition and under evaluation to determine whether they could be discharged today in applicable cases.

Earlier this Thursday, Dr. Domínguez revealed that one of the most complex cases involved a patient who had to undergo an amputation of an upper limb due to the severity of the injuries. "Amputation was necessary; the rest are open fractures that are being surgically corrected," he specified.

Others had open fractures and multiple injuries that were treated surgically.

The incident, recorded on a stretch of road deemed highly dangerous, involved a Yutong bus belonging to the Mariel Construction Company. The bus was en route from Banes in Holguín to Artemisa, transporting workers from the Mariel Development Zone and other individuals. According to official reports, there were 45 passengers on board the bus.

Local television reported that a truck was also involved, but did not provide details about how the events unfolded.

Preliminary reports of the tragic incident indicated that the bus "went off the road and then overturned in the underbrush," resulting in the fatal outcome. However, authorities have not yet revealed the causes of the accident. The victims have also not been identified.

The injured were initially treated at the polyclinic in the municipality of Sibanicú, where emergency protocols were activated and medical transport was mobilized. Subsequently, they were transferred to hospitals in the city of Camagüey.

At the Provincial Hospital Manuel Ascunce Domenech, 34 people have been treated; at the Military Hospital, three patients were initially reported as serious, and at the Provincial Hospital Amalia Simoni, two injured. Meanwhile, at the Pediatric Hospital, two minors were under medical observation but out of danger.

According to official information, following the accident, the medical personnel from the province were mobilized to ensure timely and quality care for all the injured.

In addition, an emergency device was activated that involved the participation of the Ministry of the Interior (Minint), firefighters, health personnel, and provincial authorities.

The local government guaranteed accommodation and food for the relatives of the injured and ensured the availability of the necessary medical and logistical resources for the care of the victims, according to official sources.
