Update on the number of those affected by the accident in Guáimaro: 56 involved and five serious cases

Local authorities updated the information on Tuesday regarding the mass accident that occurred in Guáimaro, Camagüey, which involved a bus with dozens of passengers, including pregnant women and minors.

According to CMHN Radio Guáimaro on social media, the total number of individuals involved amounts to 56. Of these, 47 have mild injuries and have received medical attention with no serious complications reported so far. 

The updated report also confirms that seven pregnant women sustained trauma due to the injuries suffered during the accident. Although none are in life-threatening condition, they remain under strict medical supervision to rule out any possible effects resulting from the impact. 

Regarding the minors, four children were involved in the incident. One of them is being evaluated by a Pediatric specialist, while the other three have no injuries.

The report also details that five patients were classified as serious and transferred to hospitals in the city of Camagüey, where they are receiving specialized care. So far, their identities and the specific nature of the injuries have not been disclosed, beyond the reported severity.

Preliminary information indicated that the accident resulted in multiple injuries following a traffic incident, the exact circumstances of which are still under investigation. Authorities have not yet provided a definitive official statement about the causes that led to the incident.

Medical teams and local authorities are monitoring the affected individuals, while family members await new updates on the condition of the hospitalized patients.

The accident has once again raised concerns in the province regarding transportation safety, amid a national scenario marked by technical limitations and difficulties in vehicle maintenance.

It is expected that in the coming hours, authorities will provide more official details regarding the evolution of the most critical cases and the results of the ongoing investigation.
