A Cuban identified on TikTok as Jose HIP HOP recorded himself visibly affected and crying over the nostalgia he feels for his children, from whom he has been separated for a while due to distance. The 29-second clip, published this Tuesday, touched thousands of people on social media.
"How I miss my kids. I wasn't prepared for this. I really want to see my little ones," says the Cuban through tears.
The video accumulated more than 46,700 views, 3,876 "likes," and 857 comments, becoming a reflection of the pain shared by many Cuban families divided between the island and abroad.
In the images, the man tearfully expresses the weight of separation and his longing to reunite with his children, in a raw testimony that resonated with many users.
The video adds to a recurring trend on TikTok, where Cuban parents who have emigrated publicly document the emotional impact of distance.
In August, a Cuban father in Miami named Jasiel cried in the early morning for the daughter he left in Cuba; in May, a mother living in the United States broke down upon hearing an audio message sent by her daughter from the island; and in April, a Cuban woman residing in Spain was heartbroken for not being able to celebrate her birthday in Cuba with her family.
This type of experience is often associated with what is known as "migratory mourning," an emotional process related to the losses and changes that accompany emigration, which can manifest as nostalgia, guilt, sadness, or concern for the emotional ties that remain at a distance.
Social media has showcased numerous cases of Cuban families who spend years apart before finally reuniting. Recently, a Cuban who returned to the island after seven years of absence starred in another touching video that moved users online.
Amid this reality, TikTok has become one of the platforms where Cuban parents, children, and other family members publicly express the impact of separation. Video by video, these testimonies create a portrait of the human cost of a migration crisis that has left countless families divided between Cuba and various countries around the world.
