A woman was rescued on Thursday by members of the Holguín Fire Department after falling into a well over five meters deep, located in her own home in the Emilio Bárcena neighborhood.

The incident was reported on Facebook by “Realidades desde Holguín”, an official profile linked to the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), which announced the intervention of the search and rescue teams.

According to the publication, the woman became trapped at the bottom of the well, which forced the firefighters to carry out an operation under challenging conditions due to the darkness, depth, and narrowness of the location.

Rescuers used specialized techniques for confined spaces, descended to where the victim was located, and managed to secure her before bringing her to the surface.

Once out of the well, the woman received medical attention, although the source did not specify whether she suffered any injuries or provide details about her health condition. It also did not reveal her identity or explain the exact circumstances of the fall.

Other accidents in wells recorded in Cuba

This is not the first accident of this kind recorded in the province in recent years.

At the end of August 2026, firefighters rescued a man who fell into a well while working on excavation duties in Loma del Caguayo. The victim sustained multiple injuries and had to be transported to a hospital.

Another incident occurred in August 2025, when members of the Command 25 of Firefighters rescued a citizen who had become trapped in a well.

One of the most complex rescues occurred in June 2023, when Fernando Herrera Ramírez, 63 years old, spent about 28 hours trapped in a 15-meter-deep well in Mícara, Frank País municipality. The man was able to emerge alive after an extended rescue operation.

In some of these accidents, there have also been reports of difficulties accessing emergency services in Cuba. Last August, a woman who fell into an uncovered well in Bayamo, Granma, had to be taken to the hospital on an electric motorcycle due to the unavailability of an ambulance.
