The Consulate General of Spain in Havana announced that individuals registered in their Civil Registry until June 30, 2026 and notified through DICIREG can now request an appointment to process their first Spanish passport.
The information is available in an official notice published on Friday, October 9. The Consulate thus extends the previously announced deadline, which was set for May 31, 2026.
Both conditions must be met: having the registration completed in the Consular Civil Registry within the indicated timeframe and having received notification from DICIREG. The date of June 30 corresponds to the registration date, not the day on which a Spanish nationality application was submitted.
How to schedule an appointment for the first Spanish passport
Interested parties must access the official page of requirements and appointments for passports from the Consulate and look for the section "Procedure for Obtaining an Appointment for First Passport Application." There, it is explained which modality corresponds according to the date and registration details.
For individuals registered after March 15, 2025, who received notification from DICIREG via email, the Consulate advises using the 11 digits of the Cuban identity card as the identifier and the first nine alphanumeric characters of the personal code from the individual registration communicated by DICIREG as the password. For earlier registrations, there is a different procedure based on the details of the volume, page, and registration number, which is also detailed on the consular website.
The activation of the group does not guarantee the immediate availability of an appointment. The Consulate warns that appointments are made available progressively and recommends checking the system again when no slots are visible. The appointment reservation is free of charge, although the issuance of the passport is subject to the applicable consular fee.
Documents and requirements to visit the Consulate
The application requires personal attendance, even in the case of minors. Among the documents specified by the Consulate are the completed application form, a recent color photograph measuring 32 by 26 millimeters on a white background, and the original and a photocopy of the Cuban identity card or the residence document issued by the Cuban authorities.
To obtain a passport, it is also necessary to be registered in the Consular Registration. Those requesting their first passport and who are not yet registered as residents must submit the appropriate registration form. If the birth is already registered in the Civil Registry of the Consulate of Havana, it is not necessary to provide a literal birth certificate for this process initially, although the office may require additional documents to verify identity or nationality. In applications for minors, specific authorizations and documents are required.
Where to apply for and when to collect the passport
The in-person passport application is conducted at the Lonja del Comercio building, located at 2 Lamparilla Street, in Old Havana. The collection of issued passports takes place at the Palacio de Velasco, at 2 Zulueta Street, from Monday to Thursday, between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. There is no passport delivery on Fridays.
Once the application has been submitted, the applicant must check the status of the document using the official consular tracking service. When it is available at the office, it can be collected without an appointment, provided that the required documentation for collection is presented. The average processing time published by the Consulate is three weeks from the application, but this is just a guideline and may be prolonged.
This measure refers exclusively to the first application for the Spanish passport. It does not imply a new granting of nationality, nor does it modify the procedures for passport renewal or visa acquisition. To avoid errors and potential fraud, information and reservations should be checked through the official channels of the Consulate.
