A truck loaded with produce overturned and crashed into a house that operates as a sales point in the Párraga neighborhood, Arroyo Naranjo municipality, in the south of Havana, on Friday, October 16, around 12:20 PM.
The accident caused significant material damage, including the partial destruction of the property and damage to a moped and a tricycle.
According to the reports released, the vehicle is said to have experienced a brake failure before losing control, although this cause has not been officially confirmed.
The incident was reported by the news reporter Niover Licea, who shared photographs and videos of the damage caused by the impact.
The accident
The incident occurred at the intersection of Calixto García Road and Menocal Avenue, a predominantly residential area known for the so-called "Párraga curve," a common gathering place for private food vendors.
According to the information received from Licea, the truck loaded with root vegetables overturned in the vicinity of Camagüey and Pasaje. It was presumably descending without brakes when the driver lost control.
The vehicle ended up crashing directly into the building.
“The force of the impact caused significant material damage, leaving a crushed motorbike, a seriously affected tricycle, and part of the building destroyed,” the reporter detailed in a later update.
Material damage and situation of those affected
The establishment usually welcomes customers; however, according to a testimony received by NiO Reportando un Crimen, there were no people shopping at the time of the incident.
Witnesses expressed concern over the possibility that someone might have been trapped under the overturned vehicle.
Until the reports were closed, no injuries or fatalities had been confirmed, and the condition of the driver was unknown.
Niover Licea himself noted in his most recent update: "The images speak for themselves. What could have turned into a tragedy fortunately ended without human casualties."
The accident adds to other incidents recorded in Cuba during 2026, where cargo vehicles have ended up crashing into homes.
In May, a trailer crashed through the wall of a house in Artemisa while a woman was cooking inside.
Months earlier, a truck crashed into a house in Santiago de Cuba, and its driver left the scene without checking for the damages caused.
The deterioration of the vehicle fleet and the difficulties in obtaining spare parts and carrying out maintenance tasks are ongoing issues in transportation in Cuba.
In the case of cargo vehicles, potential mechanical failures, especially in systems such as brakes, pose a risk to drivers, pedestrians, and residents in areas where they operate.
The specific causes of the Párraga accident, however, have not been officially confirmed.
