A Cuban resident in Tampa, Florida, has shared a reflection on how the way one falls in love changes after emigrating to the United States. In a video posted on TikTok, the young man compared the spontaneity of romantic relationships in Cuba with what he has experienced since arriving in the U.S.
The Cuban, identified on TikTok as @alberto..salazar, reminisced nostalgically about how easy it was to find a partner when he lived on the island.
"I am Cuban, as you already know, and while I was on the island, I was always in a relationship, which made it a bit easier to find someone. I would sit on the malecón, eat my peanut cone, we would have a very nice chat, and in the end, we would go home happy," he recounted.
However, she insists that her experience has been very different since she moved to the United States, even in a state with a large Cuban community. "Even though I live in Florida, which is full of Cubans, I feel that the Cuban who arrives here changes a lot," she stated.
The young man explained that his reflection is not related to the nationality of the women he has been with, but rather to the way of experiencing love and cherishing the small moments. He mentioned that almost all of his partners have been Cuban, except for one Venezuelan.
"I'm referring to the inner self, to the innocence of that Cuban who used to enjoy those little things in Cuba, like going to the malecón and falling in love while gazing at the sea. Not here," he expressed, revealing how much he misses that way of emotionally connecting with someone.
His reflection has sparked interest on TikTok, where the video had accumulated, according to the figures collected for the news, more than 89,000 views, 9,400 likes, and hundreds of comments. In the description of the post, the Cuban himself summarized his view on love with a phrase: “I’m still that good and innocent baby.”
Love and romantic relationships among Cuban emigrants have also been at the center of discussions on social media. Recently, another Cuban sent a message to unmarried women in Miami, claiming that many were looking for partners in the wrong places, statements that also sparked reactions among users.
