Amazon announced that it will hire more than 300,000 workers in the United States for the 2026 holiday season, including over 21,000 in Florida. The opportunities include temporary, part-time, and permanent positions, with an average wage of $20 per hour for seasonal workers.

The company confirmed on Tuesday, October 20 that the hiring will include temporary, part-time, and permanent positions in its storage, distribution, and logistics operations centers across the country.

Temporary workers will receive an average wage of $20 per hour. For regular full-time employees, the starting minimum wage will be $20 per hour, while the average wage in Amazon's core operations is close to $24 per hour.

Opportunities may be particularly appealing to Cubans residing in Florida, where Amazon maintains an extensive network of facilities and will continue to post job openings over the coming weeks.

More than 21,000 hires in Florida, including 2,000 in Tampa Bay

According to Business Observer, which cited information from the company, Amazon plans to hire over 21,000 workers in Florida, with more than 2,000 in the Tampa Bay area.

The figure represents an opportunity for those seeking employment in the state, particularly in regions with a significant presence of Cubans, such as Miami-Dade, Broward, Orlando, and Tampa.

However, it has not yet been confirmed how many spots in this campaign will specifically correspond to Miami-Dade, Broward, and Orlando.

Interested parties should consult the official hiring platform to learn about the available opportunities in their city or zip code.

Amazon currently has 35 fulfillment and sorting centers, 37 delivery stations, and an air operations center in Florida, according to data released by Business Observer.

How to apply for a job at Amazon?

The company announced that it will post new job openings every week from October to December, and recommends regularly checking its official channels.

Interested individuals can directly access the Amazon jobs platform or visit amazon.com/localjobs.

From there, you can search for opportunities based on your location, review available shifts, and submit your application online.

To find jobs in Florida, applicants can enter cities such as Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, or Tampa, along with their respective zip codes.

Amazon also offers the option to receive alerts about new job openings via a text message by sending the word JOB to 31432.

Availability is constantly changing, and some positions can be filled quickly.

What requirements must applicants meet?

The specific requirements depend on the position, but for common warehouse jobs, Amazon states that candidates must be at least 18 years old and meet the corresponding safety and hiring conditions.

They must also present identification documents and prove that they are legally authorized to work in the United States.

This means that Cubans interested in applying for jobs must have a migration status that allows them to work, whether through permanent residency, citizenship, or another valid work authorization.

According to the official instructions from Amazon in Spanish, the hiring process begins with an online application, selecting a shift, and scheduling a pre-onboarding appointment.

During that appointment, the required documents are verified, and the corresponding procedures are completed.

New medical benefits starting January 2027

In addition to salaries, Amazon announced an expansion of medical coverage for its eligible temporary employees.

Starting from January 1, 2027, seasonal workers who work at least 30 hours per week will be able to access health plans from their first day of eligible employment.

The announced options will start with premiums of five dollars a week and copayments from five dollars.

Those who were hired before that date and continue to work under the required conditions will be able to access the benefit starting January 1.

The company also reminded that some temporary workers have the possibility of later becoming permanent employees, although that transition is not guaranteed.

Union questions the working conditions

The announcement also sparked union criticism.

The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU), an American union representing workers in retail and warehouses, questioned on October 20 the working conditions during peak activity periods.

Its president, Stuart Appelbaum, warned that the new benefits do not alone address the issues related to injuries, workload, and productivity demands in the logistics centers.

The organization requested that Amazon ensure safe working conditions and respect the rights of union organization.

This year's hiring surpasses the 250,000 positions announced by Amazon for each of the previous three holiday seasons, representing an increase of at least 20%.
