Miami will close the Financial District Metromover station for about five weeks: this is how the Brickell route will change

The Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) announced the temporary closure of the Metromover Financial District station, which took effect last Saturday and will continue for approximately five weeks, according to the agency's official statement.

The reason is the modernization of the track switches as part of the Metromover Upgrade Project, a comprehensive system renewal program with an investment of around 153 million dollars that includes updating the automatic train control, 21 electrical substations, communications, signaling, and track switch equipment.

During this period, the Brickell Loop —one of the three circuits of the Metromover— will continue to operate, but with a modified route: trains will start and end their journeys at the Brickell Metromover station, without reaching the Financial District stop.

This means that the station located at 50 SE 14 Street will be out of service while the work is ongoing.

For those who work, live, or conduct business in Brickell and the Financial District—an area with a high concentration of Cubans and Latin Americans in Miami—the change means getting off at the Brickell station and continuing on foot or by another means to their destinations at the southern end of the circuit.

It is important to note that the Brickell station, which remains active, is also the connection point to the Green and Orange lines of the Metrorail, making it easier to transfer to other routes within the county's transportation system.

The DTPW warns that the closure schedule is subject to change and advises passengers to plan ahead and allow additional travel time.

The agency will publish notices and signage throughout the system during the closure, and users can receive real-time updates through the GO Miami-Dade Transit app, the county's social media, or by signing up for Transit Alerts.

It is worth mentioning that the Metromover remains free for all passengers. Unlike the Metrorail and Metrobus, whose fares will increase from $2.25 to $2.75 starting January 1, 2027 after the approval by the Miami-Dade Commission on October 6, the Metromover is not included in this fare hike.

For more information on the modernization project, the county refers to the portals miamidade.gov/moverupgrade and metromoverupgrade.com, where updates to the schedule will be posted, which may vary from the five weeks initially planned.
