The Cuban influencer Kevusho shook up social media again this Tuesday with an unboxing of a new Hermès wallet purchased in New York, which has a boutique price of around 17,500 dollars, and adding the city's sales tax, left him with a bill of about 19,000 dollars.
Kevin Martínez —the real name of the content creator based in New York— began the video with his characteristic comedic tone, addressing his audience as "María Julia": "You and I woke up today wanting to spend, and we might have spent 20,000 dollars on this little box."
What makes the episode particularly striking is the context surrounding it. Just four days earlier, Kevusho had publicly reported that a former Hermès saleswoman borrowed 6,000 dollars from him and never paid it back.
In the new video, the influencer jokes that the brand's response was to offer him precisely this item to keep him quiet: "The people from Hermès told me: we're going to offer you a bag, but only if you stop talking about us, just shut up. A bribe, I love it, give meee."
The handbag in question, a Hermès Mini Kelly Picnic, which Kevusho requests not to be compared to "your grandmother's wicker bag," is a limited edition piece that combines wicker and leather—on the secondary market, it is valued between $59,500 and $65,500, according to specialized platforms.
That information is the core of the argument that Kevusho presents to his followers to justify the expenditure: "This is one of the best investments you can make this month. Because they are super limited portfolios and can cost up to three times what they are worth in the store. In other words, this could cost as much as $60,000."
The influencer also took the opportunity to take stock of his collection: he already had another identical handbag in a different color and a Birkin. "María Julia, here is $180,000 in investment. Tell me if I'm not managing our money well," he proclaimed. Not to mention the other luxury handbags he keeps in his closet.
The reaction from their followers was mostly celebratory. There were plenty of compliments, jokes about the "bribe," and requests for loans. One wrote, "Lend it to me so I can go to Goodwill and speculate, please." Another pointed out sarcastically, "I’m tired of sending SHEIN links to my contacts and not getting anything. I'm heading to Hermès to chat and see if I can get bribed that way."
Skeptical voices were not lacking. One comment directly questioned the price: "How brands play with people's minds, because that bag is never worth $17,000. It's not made of exotic leather, it has no gold or silver, it's just Hermès."
This unboxing comes just two weeks after Kevusho starred in another viral episode: the Cuban influencer who entered Dior in Miami ready to spend $40,000 and was ignored due to his casual attire, after which he traveled to New York and completed the purchase there.
With over 252,000 followers on Instagram, Kevusho has become one of the most followed Cuban creators in the luxury niche, and each of his encounters with major brands ends up being, paradoxically, advertising for both parties.
