Families living at the U.S. Naval Base in Guantánamo, located in Cuban territory, celebrated Halloween with a home decoration contest, prizes for the most creative homes, and a day of handing out candy throughout the various neighborhoods of the military installation.

The celebration was organized by the Housing Department of the base, which announced the contest at the beginning of the month, inviting residents to showcase their creativity and transform their homes with Halloween decorations.

The call invited families to decorate the façades, gardens, and entrances of their homes with elements characteristic of the celebration, such as pumpkins, ghosts, and other figures related to horror.

According to the rules published by the housing administration, participants had to register before October 23 and have their houses ready for evaluation starting on the 26th.

A jury evaluated the homes registered between October 26 and 30, considering five criteria: creativity and originality, Halloween spirit, visual impact, effort and attention to detail, and utilization of the house or garden spaces.

Each category had a maximum value of 10 points, for a total possible of 50.

Last Friday, the Naval Base announced the winners of the contest, after the jury selected the three most outstanding homes.

The first place went to the residence identified as Villamar 65, whose residents received as a prize the rental of a boat for four hours, excluding fuel.

The second place was awarded to Grenadillo Circle 92A, with a prize of two hours of bowling for a group of four people.

The third place was awarded to Caravella Point 2705, which received a card for one hour of games at the recreational center Rec Room.

The administration of the facility congratulated the winners and thanked all the residents who decorated their homes.

The celebration continued on Saturday with the traditional activity of trick-or-treating, scheduled between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM.

In a notice published that same day, the base announced that all residential neighborhoods would be open to those participating in the tour to collect treats.

The organizers indicated that families willing to welcome visitors should keep the lights on at their doorways, as participants would only visit the homes that were lit.

The post included a humorous comment about the presence of full-sized chocolate bars at Deer Point and the supposed appearance of a ghost that would distribute treats in that neighborhood.

A phone line at 855-462-8322 was also set up for residents to report issues with the lights at their entrances prior to the event.

The Guantanamo Naval Base has several residential communities for U.S. military personnel and their families, including Villamar, Caravella Point, Grenadillo Circle, and Deer Point.

In addition to operational facilities, the enclave offers services and recreational spaces for its residents, including sports centers, entertainment areas, and community activities organized throughout the year.
