The problems Cubans face when taking a taxi could be alleviated with "Sube", a mobile application created by young programmers that allows passengers to communicate with taxis.taxi drivers, negotiate routes and travel costs.

"We thought of a solution to make transportation easier for people. This system connects taxi drivers with customers," Darien Gonzalez, creator of the app, explained to Reuters.

The launch of this "Cuban Uber" coincided with a growingtransportation crisis on the Island, as taxi drivers were subject to new government regulations to control routes, fares, and gasoline purchases, leading many taxi drivers to quit, change their routes, or increase prices.

"It is necessarysolve the problem with taxi drivers, set a good rate for them and thus have good service because we arrive late to all the places," lamented Rosario González, a resident of Havana.

However, the problem is that payment to taxi drivers must be made in cash since online transactions do not exist in Cuba.

A month after its launch, some 300 cell phones have downloaded the "Sube" or "Get In" application in English.

"I have used the application a few times, but I really liked it because it has made things much easier for me. I waste less time. There are people on the streets who are waiting for a taxi for 40 minutes, and with this app just by turning on the data you can access the taxi," explained one user.

One more example of how technology can make life easier for citizens.
