This Thursday, the nominations for the 46 categories of the Latin Grammy Awards were announced. The 19th edition will take place on November 15 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. One of the surprises is that Alexander Abreu and Havana D' Primera have been nominated for Best Salsa Album with their album Cantor del Pueblo.
The nomination is particularly noteworthy given the recent controversy regarding Abreu's album not being nominated for the Cubadisco Awards in the Dance Music category, an issue that sparked a debate on social media and garnered the support of fellow musician Adalberto Álvarez.
Alexander Abreu has shared the news on his Facebook profile, accompanied by a message expressing joy and gratitude for the nomination.
In that same category last year, the Cuban Alain Pérez was nominated, although the award ultimately went to Rubén Blades.
Other Cubans are competing this year in various categories. They are:
-Telmary (Fuera Arará) for Best Alternative Music Album.
Aymée Nuviola (Como anillo al dedo) is nominated alongside fellow Cuban Diego Gutiérrez (Pa’alante el mambo!) for Best Tropical Fusion Album.
Diego Gutiérrez has also shared the news on his social media.
Omara Portuondo (Omara Siempre), for her part, will compete for the award for Best Traditional Tropical Album with El Canario and the Septeto Santiaguero (A mí qué - Tribute to Cuban Classics).
The Septeto Santiaguero has also shared the news on their social media.
Amaury Gutiérrez is nominated for Best Arrangement for his song "Se le ve."
Jorge Luis Piloto, who is nominated twice in the Best Tropical Song category for his songs "Enamórate Bailando" (performed by Septeto Acarey and Gilberto Santa Rosa) and "Me Enamoro Más de Ti" (featuring Tony Succar and Jean Rodríguez).
-Andy Clay, for being one of the songwriters of "Mi cama," a track performed by Karol G that is nominated for Best Urban Song.
Yalil Guerra as the composer of String Quartet No. 3 (in memory of Ludwig Van Beethoven), a piece that has been nominated in the category of Best Work/Contemporary Classical Composition.
In the overall list, J. Balvin stands out as the favorite with eight nominations. He is followed by the Spanish artist Rosalía, who is one of the rising stars of flamenco, nominated in five categories.
